July 22nd: Campus Martius “The Band Was Hotter Than A Pepper Sprout”!

An exciting night in beautiful downtown Detroit!  So many people, with so many things to choose from.  Shows started at 12 noon and ran through 10:30pm.  Lots of good bands down there including our friend and colleague “Mahagany Love”!

We started out our “Happy Hour” performance with “Party Like Back In The Day” and proceeded through a set list of songs that had broad appeal ending with the classic “I Got My Mojo Workin” to raucous applause!  Sweet harmonies…soaring vocals…and exciting musical solos from our talented instrumentalist, were the order of the day as we gave the audience a fast-paced and highly entertaining show.

We hope to be back next year!!!

Introducing a HOT “NEW” Line-up!

It’s 2016 and partially due to our leader’s prolonged illness (2014 – 2015), Detroit Social Club has evolved or morphed from being a Soul/R&B/Funk band to a “Funky” Blues band that stylistically can encompass Country Blues, Country, Folk and Standards.

Bringing back the original lead singers of DSC, Darnell Gardner and Darnell Smith, adding Ricky Mack Turner (keyboards/vocals), and merging these talents with Code Blue alumni, Joanne Newman (vocals) and Kenny Welk (harmonica/vocals).  Making a strong comeback after being down for 2 years is Arthur “Little Brother Arthur David” Littsey (vocals. guitar, mandolin).

These are the core members of the band.  Currently, on the look-out for a steady bass player and drummer, we are fortunate to have our pick of able side-men that complement our style and sound.

APPEARING AT: Grand Blanc, MI 12/22/12

Hello everybody!  Welcome back to “Detroit Social Club’s Band Pages”.  Just a brief announcement that the band has been asked to do a Christmas party in GRAND BLANC!  A nice cozy affair  playing for some great people and helping them enjoy the holidays.  There’ll be chestnuts roasting on an open fire and the giving spirit of the holidays will fill the air.

At the Jazz Cafe/Detroit Music Hall 10/27/12

At the Jazz Cafe/Detroit Music Hall 10/27/12

l-r , Darnell Gardner, Darnell Smith and Little Brother Arthur David

We have worked several new tunes into the set list so we will have quite a few surprises for our hosts.  And since it is a holiday party, you can expect to hear tunes like Donny Hathaway‘s “Christmas Song,” Charles Brown‘s “Merry Christmas Baby,” and “Please Come Home for Christmas” by Aaron Neville.

I will have to let you know how things turn out.  It’s gonna be a PAHRRRRTAY and we intend to TEAR THE SUCKER DOWN (in a respectful way…after all it is Christmas!)!!
